Article:
OUR BODY IS THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
by Dr. Christopher S. Deatherage N.D
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 reads, “Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.” Verse 19-20, “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, For God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.”
The above scripture teaches us that as Christian believers our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and because of this divine ownership we are to abstain from sexual immorality and also from anything that harms our body. This would be a call to maintain our health as a form of worship.
In my previous article NEW START I emphasized eight basic laws of God to prevent disease. They are nutrition, adequate exercise, adequate water intake, daily sunlight, temperance in good things, daily fresh air, adequate rest, and trust in God for health and healing.
The above scripture is also a reminder to avoid harmful substances that defile this temple like sugar, processed foods, unnecessary medications, etc. which play a part in the development of every major chronic illness.
Because of God’s divine ownership, let us glorify God in our bodies to reflect His character.
